3.8kW Grid-Tie Solar Kit with 4.5kW Canadian Solar Panels

What is included in this 3.8kW grid-tied solar kit?

The package lists one Growatt MIN 3800TL-XH-US inverter, ten Canadian Solar 450W panels, ten Tigo TS4-A-F rapid shutdown devices, 100 ft of 10 AWG PV cable and monitoring components as specified in your quote. Installation and additional site-specific materials are separate.

Why does the kit have 4.5kW of panels and a 3.8kW inverter?

The ten panels total 4.5kW of rated solar capacity. The inverter converts that solar power into up to 3.8kW AC at 240V. Actual production varies, and the inverter limits AC output when more solar power is available.

Will this kit work during a power outage?

Not as supplied. A normal grid-tied installation stops supplying power when the utility grid fails. Outage backup requires an approved battery system and compatible backup equipment, purchased and designed separately.

Do I need a battery for grid-tied solar?

No battery is included or required for normal grid-tied solar generation. Your utility supplies electricity when solar production is insufficient. Battery storage is a separate upgrade.

Can I add batteries later?

Yes, the inverter is battery-ready for approved storage configurations. Confirm the exact inverter version, battery model and any required backup equipment before buying. This is not a universal connection for ordinary 48V batteries.

Can this kit reduce my electricity bill?

Solar generation can reduce the electricity you buy while the system is producing power. Your savings depend on sunlight, shading, your usage and utility rates. Export credits depend on the program available and approved for your property; savings are not guaranteed.

Can I export extra solar electricity to the grid?

Only under your utility's approved interconnection and export arrangements. Your installer must confirm the permitted settings, metering and approvals before connecting the system.

Are the Canadian Solar 450W panels bifacial?

No. These TOPHiKu6 All-Black panels are non-bifacial N-type TOPCon panels. The ten-panel array is rated at 4,500W without any rear-side generation bonus.

Are these panels suitable for Canadian winters?

The panel datasheet specifies operation from -40°C to +85°C and high snow and wind load ratings under specified mounting conditions. Roof and racking design still matter, and snow cover and shorter days reduce production. The inverter has separate installation and temperature requirements.

How should the ten panels be connected?

The planned setup is two strings of five panels. Connect the five panels in each string in series, then connect one string to MPPT 1 and the other to MPPT 2. Final installation still requires the site-specific cold-voltage and inverter input-current checks.

Are the rapid shutdown devices a complete shutdown system?

The package lists ten Tigo TS4-A-F devices, one per panel. They also need a compatible RSS transmitter and the required shutdown controls. Confirm the complete equipment combination and transmitter inclusion in your written quote.

Does the kit include Wi-Fi monitoring?

Monitoring components are supplied as specified in your package quote. Confirm the exact communication module and internet requirements before ordering; optional manufacturer features should not be assumed to be included.

How much roof space and weight should I plan for?

Each panel is approximately 1.8m by 1.134m and weighs 23kg. Ten panels have about 20.4 square metres of panel surface and weigh 230kg before racking. The actual roof area needed is larger once spacing, access and setbacks are included.

Can I install this grid-tied solar kit myself?

You can help plan the project and perform work you are qualified and permitted to do. Grid connection, electrical protection, permits and inspections must meet local requirements and utility rules. Arrange the required qualified installation and approvals before energizing the system.
