What is included in this 12kW off-grid solar kit?

You receive one Growatt SPE12000US inverter, sixteen Canadian Solar 450W panels (7.2kW total), a solar panel-to-inverter cable set, a Wi-Fi module and product documentation. Batteries, a generator and site-specific installation materials are sold separately.

Why does this kit pair a 12kW inverter with 7.2kW of solar panels?

This combination gives you more capacity to run appliances while keeping the starting solar package more affordable. The panels supply daytime energy, and a suitably sized battery bank can help cover higher demand. It also leaves room to expand the solar array later. The 7.2kW panels alone cannot produce 12kW; full output requires enough available energy.

Can this kit power an entire home or cottage?

It can be the foundation of a home or cottage off-grid system, but the right fit depends on your appliances, daily energy use and winter needs. Large electric heaters, EV charging and motor starts can require additional capacity. Share your load list with ROCKSOLAR so the solar array and battery bank can be sized for your property.

Are batteries included?

No. Battery storage is sold separately, allowing you to choose the amount of stored energy and battery output capacity that your installation needs.

What battery bank should I choose?

Choose a compatible 48V-class battery bank with enough stored energy for your desired runtime and enough continuous discharge power for your loads. Battery capacity in kWh alone does not tell you how much equipment it can power at once. ROCKSOLAR can help select the battery quantity and confirm communication compatibility.

Will the kit keep my home running during a blackout?

With a compatible battery bank and properly connected backup circuits, the inverter can supply those circuits when utility power is unavailable. This package does not include batteries, so it is not a complete overnight or all-weather backup system as supplied. Runtime depends on battery size and the appliances you use.

Does it provide 120V and 240V power?

Yes. The Growatt SPE12000US provides 120/240V split-phase output for compatible household circuits and equipment. Your installer must check load balance and appliance starting requirements.

Can this single inverter provide three-phase power?

This package contains one inverter and is configured for 120/240V split-phase power. A three-phase installation requires a separately designed, supported multi-inverter arrangement; it is not supplied by this single-inverter kit.

How should the sixteen solar panels be connected?

Connect the panels in two groups of eight. Within each group, connect the panels in series, then connect one group to each of the inverter's two MPPT solar inputs. Final installation still requires the site-specific cold-voltage and inverter input-current checks.

Are the Canadian Solar panels suitable for Canadian winters?

The panels are designed for demanding outdoor conditions, with a -40°C to +85°C operating range and specified snow and wind load ratings subject to the manufacturer's mounting requirements. They are well suited to Canadian conditions when correctly installed, but snow coverage and short winter days still reduce energy production.

Are these panels bifacial?

No. The Canadian Solar TOPHiKu6 All-Black CS6.1-54TM-450H panels use a non-bifacial design. The 7.2kW array rating does not rely on rear-side generation.

Can the inverter be installed outdoors?

No. The SPE12000US has an IP20 enclosure and requires a dry indoor installation with suitable ventilation and clearances. Its specified operating range is -10°C to +50°C. Do not apply the panels' outdoor temperature or weather ratings to the inverter.

Can I add a generator?

Yes. The inverter supports a compatible generator as an additional energy source when sunshine is limited. The generator is sold separately, and its size and connection must be selected for the installation. Detailed setup requirements belong in the inverter manual and installation design.

Can I expand the system later?

Yes. You can start with this 7.2kW solar package and add compatible panels or battery storage as your energy needs grow. More panels can increase daytime energy production; more battery capacity can extend runtime. Expansion must stay within the inverter's input limits and the battery manufacturer's requirements.

Can this kit export electricity to the grid?

This listing is for an off-grid system, not a grid-export or net-metering package. Any utility-input connection must be designed appropriately and does not make the system approved for export.

Can I install the kit myself?

Experienced DIY customers can help with permitted preparation and mechanical work, but this is not a plug-and-play kit. Electrical work, permits and inspections must meet the rules in your area. Use a qualified installer for the final electrical design, connections and commissioning.

What else is needed for installation?

Plan for suitable mounting, grounding, disconnects, circuit protection, battery wiring and rapid shutdown where required. Battery storage is needed for stored energy after sunset. The supplied solar cable set does not replace a site-specific wiring and protection plan.

What warranties apply?

Warranty coverage is component-specific, rather than one blanket system warranty. The supplied inverter datasheet lists a five-year standard warranty.
