Description
Description
Combine 33.48kW of Canadian Solar panels with an 18kW Growatt hybrid inverter and 43.02kWh of nominal GSL LiFePO4 battery storage. This hybrid solar kit brings solar generation and energy storage together for professionally designed home, farm and workshop energy systems in Canada.
Use solar energy during the day, store energy for later use and plan backup power for selected circuits. Operating modes, available backup power and grid connection depend on the completed system design and equipment configuration.

Solar generation, battery storage and backup power
- 33.48kW solar array: Fifty-four 620W N-type TOPCon panels provide the rated front-side solar capacity. Bifacial rear-side production depends on mounting, clearance and reflected light.
- 18kW hybrid inverter: The Growatt SPH 18000TL-HU-US supports 120/240V split-phase applications and combines solar conversion with compatible battery charging and discharging.
- 43.02kWh nominal storage: Three 51.2V, 280Ah GSL batteries provide lithium iron phosphate energy storage. The combined manufacturer-stated discharge energy at 95% depth of discharge is approximately 40.87kWh before inverter losses and any additional reserve.
- Three independent MPPT trackers: Support a professionally designed array layout within the inverter's voltage, power and current limits.
- Energy management flexibility: A suitable installation can support solar self-consumption, scheduled battery use and backup circuits. Utility export and generator integration require project-specific approval and configuration.

Plan your installation
Have your installer confirm the exact inverter and battery pairing, BMS communication, battery current settings, backup loads and applicable equipment approvals before ordering. Mount the IP20 batteries in a suitable indoor location that stays within their operating limits, including a minimum charging temperature of 0 degrees C.
Mounting and racking, field wiring, battery interconnection hardware, electrical protection, rapid-shutdown equipment where required, permits, utility applications and installation services are outside the listed equipment package unless specifically included in your quotation. Monitoring accessories and communication cables should also be confirmed in the quotation.
Certification documents and model coverage
The documents below cover specific components or system configurations. Component certification and fire testing have different scopes from certification of a complete inverter-and-battery system.
| Document | Models and scope |
|---|---|
| GSL battery UL 1973 certificate | SGS certificate SGSNA/22/SZ/00275, effective 13 November 2024, names GSL051280A-B-GBP2 and GSL051280A-B-GBP2F under ANSI/UL 1973-2018 and CAN/UL 1973-2018. |
| GSL DC UL 9540 system certificate | SGS certificate SGSNA/25/GZ/00397X, effective 31 October 2025, covers the listed HESS-SW / HESS-SF system configurations under ANSI/CAN/UL 9540:2023. |
| GSL UL 9540A fire-test report | Report CQES240900090101, project CQES2409000901BA, issued 25 October 2024, evaluates GSL051280A-B-GBP2F at unit level using ANSI/CAN/UL 9540A:2019. |
| Growatt inverter standards | The supplied SPH 9600-18000TL-HU-US datasheet lists UL 1741, UL 1741 SA/SB, CSA C22.2, CSA C22.3 and IEEE 1547 among its standards. |
Battery charging temperature: The supplied UL 1973 certificate specifies an ambient charging range of 0 to 45 degrees C. Although the battery datasheet and manual list 0 to 55 degrees C, this listing uses the certificate's narrower range until GSL confirms the applicable limit for the delivered model.
SGS certificates state that certification validity depends on the product appearing in the SGS certified-product directory. Verify the current listing, delivered model labels and approved system configuration before installation.

Frequently asked questions
Is this an 18kW or 33.48kW solar system?
The inverter is rated for 18kW AC output. The 54 panels total 33.48kW DC at STC. Battery storage is measured separately: the three batteries total 43.02kWh of nominal energy. Solar capacity, inverter output and battery energy describe different parts of the system.
Will the batteries supply 18kW continuously?
The inverter's 18kW rating does not guarantee 18kW of battery-only output. Available power depends on battery voltage, BMS limits, inverter current limits, temperature and conversion losses. The three batteries have a combined recommended charge/discharge current of 300A, while the inverter lists a 334A maximum. Your installer must set limits for the complete system.
How long will 43.02kWh of battery storage last?
Runtime depends on the connected loads and usable energy. The datasheet discharge-energy figures total approximately 40.87kWh at 95% depth of discharge, before inverter losses and any additional reserve. For an estimate, divide the energy available to your AC loads by their average power consumption in kW. Heating, pumps and other high-demand loads require a load assessment.
Are the Canadian Solar 620W panels bifacial?
Yes. The CS6.2-66TB-620H panels use bifacial TOPCon cells and a dual-glass construction. Rear-side gain varies with the installation; it is additional to the 33.48kW front-side rating and is not guaranteed.
Can these batteries be installed outdoors in a Canadian winter?
These batteries have an IP20 enclosure and a specified charging range of 0 to 45 degrees C. They require a suitable indoor location with conditions that remain within manufacturer limits. This package does not include a confirmed self-heating battery model.
Is this a complete installed solar system?
This is an equipment package containing one inverter, three batteries and 54 panels. Your project also needs a site-specific mounting and electrical design, the required installation hardware and professional installation. Confirm the final scope with ROCKSOLAR before purchase.
